Through the first fifteen years of his career, Dana’s practice was concentrated in the area of commercial litigation. He worked on a variety of cases including employer and employee rights, disability insurance, construction disputes, construction lien litigation, commercial litigation, shareholder and partnership disputes, oppression remedies, commercial lease disputes, repair and storage lien and personal property security litigation, arson, fraud, misrepresentation, bankruptcy and insolvency, occupier’s liability, and the professional liability of Lawyers, Architects, Engineers, Real Estate and Mortgage Brokers and Appraisers.
Over the years, the number of lawyers practicing commercial litigation within our firm has grown. As this area of practice expanded, Dana became the leader of the commercial litigation and employment law group. This also resulted in Dana expanding his own practice to include personal injury litigation. In the more than ten years since this transition, Dana has represented plaintiffs in cases involving wrongful death and serious personal injury, including, but not limited to, spinal and severe brain injuries arising from motor vehicle accidents, slip and falls, occupiers liability, product liability, sexual assault, and medical malpractice. He has successfully negotiated and prosecuted numerous actions resulting in multi-million dollar recoveries for general and pecuniary damages, loss of income and accident benefits. Dana works out of our Ottawa office, but also travels to our locations in Cornwall and Kingston as needed to meet with clients on personal injury matters.
Dana is a member of the Ottawa Construction Association and the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association, being a member of the Medical Malpractice Specialty Group within that association. He has lectured on numerous matters related to his practice throughout the years.
Dana believes passionately in the Canadian Justice System, the role of legal counsel in advocating for clients within this system, the importance of understanding and empathizing with a client’s needs, and the provision of constructive and timely solutions.
Outside of the practice of law, Dana has pursued numerous charitable objectives including sitting for many years on the Charity Golf Tournament Committee for St. Patrick’s Home Foundation, sitting on the Board of Directors for Ride for Dad, and being one of the founders and committee members of the Brain Injury Association of the Ottawa Valley annual charity dinner. These initiatives have resulted in the raising of hundreds of thousands of dollars for these worthy causes.
Dana is extremely active and enjoys a variety of sports, including having been a competitive hockey and squash participant, running marathons and triathlons, golfing, swimming, road biking and downhill and cross country skiing. He currently is a coach within the Kanata Minor Hockey Association, having completed the Hockey Canada Speak Out and Coach Stream certifications.
